DO YOU LIKE SINGING AND MIXING WITH SOCIABLE AND LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE?

If you do, then the New Music Makers is the choir for you. We all enjoy our Thursday evening rehearsals, the concerts, as well as our social occasions, such as the Christmas Dinner. The choir is SATB ( 4 part Soprano, Alto, Tenor Bass) and sings a mixed genre of music to suit all tastes, from musicals, rock, pop, choral to jazz and much more. Our members come from a wide area of Hampshire and we rehearse in Hedge End, it being a central place for all to get to. You do not have to read music to join us.

Originally started in 1970, the choir now has over 50 singers, aged 30 upwards. Being a charity, we collect for two charities each year, voted by the choir members. We also like to involve young musicians and dancers in our concerts and to date have been proud to work alongside students from King Edward VI School, Wildern School, Peter Simmonds, DM Dance Group, amongst others.

Our musical forays are mixed and interesting Past venues include:- Turner Sims Concert Hall, Thornden Concert Hall, Romsey Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, The Berry Theatre, Hinton Ampner House, Lulworth Castle, etc. Each venue has its own particular merits and all have proved to be most rewarding and successful places at which to sing. We have also been involved in radio and TV.

Where you choose to sing is up to you, concerts are not obligatory, but obviously the more singers we have, the better the sound we produce.

You do not have to read music, as apart from going through the notes at rehearsals, choir members are supported by a choir buddy when joining and also CDs, MP3s and an online music player are available to help learn the music.

This is a very relaxed choir to sing in and after an initial few weeks of trying us out to see if you like what we sing and a simple voice test, you become a member.

Both our Musical Director, Lillian Sediles and Deputy Musical Director, Chris Allison do a great job teaching and conducting us. Here’s a little video from Lillian below:
